2nd Annual Thunder Road Classics and Chrome Meet - July 27, 2003
Overcast skies and threatening rain did not deter 39 vehicle participants and 7 spectators from attending the 2nd annual Thunder Road VAE July meeting.
Down from last year’s 68 vehicles, the group raised $858 dollars for camp Ta-Kum- Ta, Vermont’s camp for children with cancer. Under the erected VAE courtesy tent, a business meeting was held while Bob Van Arsdale circled all motorized wagons in his 1905 curve dash Oldsmobile B Runabout at 25 mph. Thanks Bob for the entertainment and free rides.
Ted Kessler, camp TKT director, made a short presentation on the camp origins- as a child first stated,” it’s a camp to come to”. Fund raising will continue past the Stowe show and camp begins on Monday August 11th. Donators receive the Thunder Road dash plaque, so please get your contribution to me [Gene Napoliello, 169 Balsam Lane, Waterbury Center Vt. 05677].
Our VAE thanks to Ken Squier, member and Thunder Rd, host for opening up the track and supporting the event with a $100 donation. Also contributing were Lucille Napoliello $100, and Tom McHugh $40 on behalf of Faith Bennett. A special thanks to Don and Robin LaHue for a $100 contribution that was matched by Robin’s employer, the Northfield Savings Bank of Northfield VT.
The 50/50 was won by Jack Parker who donated the $29 back to the event. Winners of the car door prizes - toy die cast metal cars 1/24 scale- were Andy Barnett of Burlington, Greg Sabens of Barre, Allen Terry of Colchester, and Steve LaFontain of Barre.
Support the camp, and donate now. Thanks, Ray Tomlinson and Gene Napoliello co-chairman.
